The MapleStory Classic Grand Launch is live, and the servers are busy. Founder's Access players have been grinding since early October, and now everyone else is walking into the same worlds.
If you're one of the free players who just made a character, you're probably wondering what's actually in the game and what isn't. The answer is more mixed than the trailers suggested.
Here's the short version. The MapleStory Classic Grand Launch went live on October 21 at 11:00 AM PDT, it is free to play on PC through the Nexon Launcher or Steam, and it only covers Maple Island and Victoria Island for now. Orbis, El Nath and third job are not in yet.
The August closed test had a bigger map. Still, the launch adds housing, a new boss and a Perion dig site, so there's plenty to do while you level.
Each account gets 3 characters. If you've been reading our MapleStory Founder's Pack breakdown, the access dates will look familiar, but the pack tiers only mattered until October 20.
What's missing is the bigger story. Orbis, El Nath, the rest of Ossyria and Forgotten Hollow are all absent, and Nexon has Forgotten Hollow scheduled for November 18.
MapleStory Classic Grand Launch: What Actually Went Live
Launch Date, Time and Platforms
Nexon opened Founder's Access on October 6 and the Grand Launch on October 21, both at 11:00 AM PDT. In other zones: 6:00 PM UTC, 2:00 PM EDT and 8:00 PM CEST. Launch maintenance ran roughly 13:00 to 18:00 UTC, and the servers came back on schedule.- Platforms: Windows and macOS, through the Nexon Launcher or Steam.
- Price: free to play.
- Language: English at launch, with Spanish and Korean in beta.
- Controls: Modern Style keybindings with WASD, and controller support if you turn it on in the options.
Classes, Level Cap and What's Missing
First job comes at level 10 and second job at level 30. The level cap is 100, but third job isn't available, so the last stretch of that cap is empty for now. Coverage differs on the class count. The most detailed launch breakdown lists four classes and no Pirate.| Class | Starting Town | Second Job Paths |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Perion | Fighter, Page, Spearman |
| Magician | Ellinia | Fire/Poison Wizard, Ice/Lightning Wizard, Cleric |
| Bowman | Henesys | Hunter, Crossbowman |
| Thief | Kerning City | Assassin, Bandit |
What Is New In The Grand Launch Update?
Housing and Citizenship
Housing is the headline system. You reach the Visitor citizenship grade, then buy a house from Bianca in Henesys or Scarlett in Kerning City. Every character on your account shares the house, so alts can pull gear from it. Buy one as soon as the grade allows.Stumpy and the Perion Excavation Site
Stumpy is now the sixth boss. The full list is Mano, Stumpy, Mushmom, Shade, Zombie Mushmom and Jr. Balrog. Nobody has a head start on the fight, since Stumpy wasn't in Founder's Access. Perion also gets an Excavation Site, with Ghost Stump, Wooden Mask, Rocky Mask, Skeledog, Mummydog and three skeleton ranks. Low and mid level players get a route away from the usual crowded maps. The Trade Lock On New Accounts
New accounts are trade locked. Trading opens 24 hours after any character on the account reaches level 15. Think of it as a bot filter. Selling your first drops? Plan around it. The Kerning City Party Quest also runs, on Channels 3 to 12 at level 21 and up. Pick a quiet channel and you'll get a party faster. How Do Founder's Access Characters Carry Over?
What Founders Kept
Characters, levels, gear, mesos and market positions from Founder's Access all stay in the same world. The economy didn't reset. Founders had 15 days of farming, so early gear prices were set by people who got there first. What Free Players Should Do First
Nexon says the cash shop is cosmetics and convenience only, with nothing that raises EXP or stats directly. Good news if you're starting late. Here's the order we'd follow on day one:- Reserve a name, and keep two backups in mind in case it's taken.
- Finish first job at level 10 and pick a class you actually enjoy farming with.
- Reach level 15 so the trade lock timer starts.
- Hit the Visitor citizenship grade and buy your house.
- Pick a leveling map with fewer players, not the famous one.
What Events Are Running During Launch?
Launch Event Calendar
A few events are stacked across the first month.- The Journey Begins: daily check-in rewards from October 21 to November 18.
- The Marks We Leave Behind: hunt the Mark of the Beta, also October 21 to November 18.
- GM jump quest: October 22, 00:00 to 02:00 UTC (one source only, so double check in game)
- Halloween: starts October 27 at 5:00 PM PDT, with Halloween Candies dropping from Malady and Orange Slimes in four towns.
- A hidden Halloween mission that rewards the Pumpkin Basket, a one-handed sword.
Pro Tips: Surviving Launch Week
- Use side maps: Crowded hunting grounds mean fewer spawns per player. A quieter map gives you more kills per minute even if the EXP per mob is lower.
- Log in for the check-in: The daily Journey Begins reward runs through November 18, so missing a week costs you rewards you can't buy back.
- Hold your rare scrolls: Early gear gets replaced fast. Don't burn scrolls on items you'll swap by level 30.
- Set stat points carefully: Classic World uses manual stat allocation, so a bad early pick sticks with you. Check a class guide first.
- Join a guild with clear rules: Ask about loot and activity before you commit. Guilds only arrive on December 9, so a Discord group works until then.
Why Does MapleStory Classic Lag During Launch?
The Usual Culprits
Launch week crowds hit every layer of the connection. Servers fill, routes congest, and your ISP picks one path whether it's good or not. For an MMO like this, you'll notice it in a few specific ways:- Skills fire a half second late, so you take hits you should have dodged.
- Mobs rubber-band on the screen, especially on crowded maps like Henesys.
- Party Quest rooms drop you out mid-run.
- Chat and loot show up out of order.
Common Mistakes Launch Players Make
- Playing on Wi-Fi at peak hours: Wireless adds jitter right when the servers are slowest. Fix: plug in an Ethernet cable, even for a few hours.
- Leaving downloads running: A Steam update or cloud sync eats your bandwidth mid-boss. Fix: pause everything before the Party Quest.
- Blaming the game for every disconnect: Nexon posted a separate maintenance notice on October 22. Fix: read the official Grand Launch release notes and the news page first.
- Picking the same hot map as everyone: Crowds make lag worse. Fix: move to a side map and compare your kills per minute.
How Does ExitLag Help With The MapleStory Classic Grand Launch?
ExitLag is not a VPN. It's a game connection optimizer that tests multiple network paths and picks the fastest, most stable route to the game's servers. It doesn't encrypt your traffic or hide your IP. ExitLag supports 4,000+ titles with 1,500+ servers in 190+ countries. For a launch like this one, the useful part is routing.- Real-time Optimization: Cuts delay and packet loss so skills and movement register faster.
- Multipath Technology: Sends packets over several routes at once, so one bad hop doesn't kick you out of a Party Quest.
- Multi-Internet: Uses up to 4 connections, and if one drops another takes over.
