Aion 2 launches globally in September 2026 with eight playable classes spread across two factions. Every character begins as an Adventurer before specializing into one of eight distinct roles, each with its own skill chains, combat mechanics, and position in both PvE and PvP content.
Faction Choice: Elyos or Asmodian
AION 2 features two playable factions, Elyos (Light) and Asmodians (Dark). The Elyos and Asmodian servers are separated, so characters from the two factions cannot meet under normal circumstances. They only come into contact in the Abyss, the game’s primary PvPvE zone.
Your faction is permanent on a given server. Choose based on where your guild or friends are playing, as faction choice affects who you can party with in every piece of content except the Abyss.
All 8 Classes at Global Launch
The eight classes in Aion 2 cover tank, healer, melee DPS, ranged DPS, magic DPS, and hybrid support roles: Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Elementalist, Cleric, and Chanter.
Gladiator

Role: Melee DPS / AoE Damage Weapon: Heavy weapons Strengths: Versatile melee fighter with AoE strikes, high durability, strong in PvE farming and large-scale PvP Best For: Beginners, frontline fighters, world bosses If you are completely new to MMORPGs, Gladiator is the safest choice. Its wide-area attacks allow you to clear groups of enemies quickly, while strong defensive stats reduce the punishment for mistakes.
Templar
Role: Tank / Crowd Control Weapon: Sword and shield Strengths: Exceptional survivability, powerful defensive skills, crowd control for dungeon and PvP Best For: Party leaders, dungeon tanks, WoE-equivalent siege content Templar features exceptional survivability and crowd-control abilities that make dungeon runs much smoother. Tanks are highly valued in endgame raids and organized PvP groups.
Assassin

Role: Melee DPS / Burst / PvP Weapon: Daggers Strengths: Stealth opener, extremely high single-target burst, top-tier PvP class Skills: Ambush and Shadowstrike set up surprise openers from concealment, Quick Slice and Flash Slice deliver fast follow-up damage, and Evasion Stance keeps the Assassin slippery in a fight. Best For: PvP specialists, Abyss combat, 1v1 arenas
Ranger
Role: Ranged DPS / Traps Weapon: Bow Strengths: Balance between mobility and damage, straightforward skill rotation, effective at distance Best For: Beginners who prefer ranged, solo content, flexible PvP positions
Sorcerer
Role: Magic DPS / AoE / Crowd Control Weapon: Spellbook Strengths: Massive AoE elemental damage, strong burst, control effects Skills: Fire abilities such as Firebomb, Firestorm, and Blaze stack burning damage, while ice spells like Ice Chain and Cold Snap slow and freeze targets. Best For: Dungeon DPS, PvP burst, group content
Elementalist (Spiritmaster)

Role: Summoner / Control / Utility Weapon: Orb Strengths: Summon pressure, debuffs, control, high skill ceiling Best For: Experienced players, support-adjacent PvP, strategic group compositions Note: Spiritmaster may appear as Elementalist in some databases and early localization.
Cleric

Role: Healer / Support Weapon: Mace and shield Strengths: Strong recovery and protective magic, powerful healing, highly sought in parties Best For: Support-oriented players, indispensable in raids and organized PvP Although healing requires paying attention to allies, the class offers impressive survivability and finding parties is much easier compared to damage-focused classes.
Chanter

Role: Hybrid Support / Buffs / Healing Weapon: Staff Strengths: Unmatched versatility, buffs and healing combined, strong team value Best For: Players who want flexibility between support and damage, guild utility
Class Tier Overview (Global Launch 2026)
| Tier | Class | Primary Strength |
|---|---|---|
| S | Assassin, Sorcerer | PvP burst, high-damage DPS |
| A | Cleric, Chanter, Ranger | Party value, reliability |
| B | Templar, Elementalist | Tank anchor, strategic control |
| C | Gladiator | Beginner-friendly, less specialized |
This ranking should not stop you from playing a class you enjoy. A comfortable A-tier class can perform better than an S-tier class that does not match your skill level.
Note: A ninth class, the Kwon-seong (Fist Master), was revealed at the AION 2 Summer Festa on June 14, 2026. Its global launch availability should be confirmed closer to the September release.
Character Customization
Players can pick from eight classes and modify more than 200 features for their character. Customization covers appearance, body proportions, facial features, and visual detail, with ongoing additions of mounts, wings, and outfits available post-launch.
There is no class change after creation in the current build, though you can level multiple characters and reuse account-wide progression where the system allows. Plan your class carefully before creating your first character.

Pro Tips: Choosing Your Aion 2 Class
- Pick the Cleric if you are unsure: It is always in demand, carries in dungeons, and finds groups faster than any other class.
- Do not pick Assassin purely for PvP unless you commit to learning stealth mechanics: High skill ceiling means poor performance early. The payoff is one of the best PvP kits in the game once mastered.
- Coordinate with your guild: Guilds need composition diversity. If your guild has excess Sorcerers, your contribution as a Templar or Cleric will be more valued.
