Ranni Elden Ring: 🌙Questline Guide, Rewards, & Age of Stars🌙

8 min

Ranni Elden Ring is one of the most beloved characters in the game and the center of the most elaborate questline FromSoftware has ever designed. Her story spans multiple regions, requires the involvement of several NPCs, and culminates in one of the game’s most compelling alternate endings. Following it correctly without missing critical steps is the difference between earning the Dark Moon Greatsword and finding yourself locked out of the entire questline.

Ranni the witch elden ring first appears as Renna, a strange woman who gives you the Spirit Calling Bell at the Church of Elleh. Her full identity and questline only reveal themselves after you find her tower beyond Caria Manor and pledge yourself to her service. From that point, her questline drives you through some of the game’s best-designed areas and most satisfying story beats.

Ranni questline elden ring requires visiting Caria Manor, the Siofra River, Nokron the Eternal City, the Carian Study Hall, the Lake of Rot, and the Moonlight Altar. This guide walks every step in order, explains what to do with each NPC, and identifies the common failure points that cause players to get stuck or miss the ending entirely.

Ranni Elden Ring: Starting the Questline

Finding Ranni’s Rise

The ranni elden ring questline begins after you fight your way through Caria Manor in Liurnia of the Lakes. Caria Manor is the castle in the northwest corner of Liurnia, and its boss, Royal Knight Loretta, must be defeated to reach the Three Sisters area beyond it.

After defeating Loretta, follow the path behind the manor to reach the Three Sisters, a set of three towers. Ranni’s Rise is the leftmost tower. Climb it and speak with Ranni at the top to trigger the oath sequence. She will ask you to serve her and reveal that she seeks to break free from the Two Fingers’ control and forge her own path outside the Golden Order.

Accepting Ranni’s service at this point officially begins the questline and introduces her other servants:

  • Blaidd: A half-wolf warrior in Ranni’s service. First met howling in Mistwood.
  • Iji: A troll blacksmith loyal to Ranni, located on the road north of Caria Manor.
  • Seluvis: A sorcerer servant of Ranni’s with his own secretive agenda, located at his prism tower nearby.

Speaking With All Servants

After pledging to Ranni, speak with Blaidd, Iji, and Seluvis before leaving the Three Sisters area. Each provides dialogue that contextualizes the next step. Blaidd mentions investigating the Siofra River for clues about Nokron, which is your next destination.

Blaidd can also be found in the Siofra River proper after descending via the Mistwood lift. Speak with him there to receive his next dialogue update.

Nokron and the Fingerslayer Blade

The critical next step is defeating Starscourge Radahn in Caelid. Radahn’s defeat causes a meteor to strike the world, opening a crater that leads down to Nokron, Eternal City. This connection is not immediately obvious, but Blaidd’s dialogue in Siofra hints at it.

After defeating Radahn, travel to the Mistwood in Limgrave and look for the large crater that appeared. Drop down through it to reach Nokron. Navigate through the city and defeat the Mimic Tear boss in the fog gate. Beyond the Mimic Tear, in a chest in the Night’s Sacred Ground area, find the Fingerslayer Blade.

Return the Fingerslayer Blade to Ranni at her Rise. She gives you the Carian Inverted Statue as a reward.

Carian Study Hall and the Cursemark

Take the Carian Inverted Statue to the Carian Study Hall in Liurnia. Placing the statue on the altar at the entrance flips the entire dungeon upside-down, revealing a new path through the building. Navigate the inverted Study Hall, defeat the Preceptor Miriam boss, and claim the Cursemark of Death from the Divine Tower of Liurnia at the far end.

Baleful Shadow and the Dark Moon Ring

After receiving the Cursemark, Ranni’s questline directs you to find the Baleful Shadow, an enemy that carries the Dark Moon Ring. The Baleful Shadow is located in a coffin shortcut area beneath the Lake of Rot. Defeat it to obtain the Dark Moon Ring.

The Dark Moon Ring is the item you will give to Ranni later to complete the questline and unlock her ending.

Ranni the Witch Elden Ring: Final Stages

Navigating the Lake of Rot

The Lake of Rot is one of the game’s most punishing areas. The entire floor is covered in scarlet rot, which rapidly builds up the Rot status. Equip Preserving Boluses (craftable with Sacramental Bud and Dewkissed Herba) and wear armor with high Immunity.

Navigate the rot lake using the elevated stone platforms visible throughout the area. Activating the four raised platforms in sequence raises stepping stones across the lake, making navigation significantly less damaging. At the far end, a coffin at the edge of a waterfall transports you to the boss arena below.

Astel, Naturalborn of the Void

Astel is the boss guarding the path to the Moonlight Altar. It is a large cosmic entity with teleportation abilities and a powerful grab attack. Spirit Ashes are fully effective here. Black Knife Tiche performs well due to her evasive moveset, and Mimic Tear provides strong distraction pressure.

After defeating Astel, ride Torrent up the long canyon path to the Moonlight Altar plateau. On this plateau, enter the Cathedral of Manus Celes and find Ranni’s physical body in the depths below the cathedral, near a claw mark in the ground.

Completing Ranni’s Questline

Equip the Dark Moon Ring and interact with Ranni’s body in the Cathedral of Manus Celes. This gives her the ring, completing your service to her. The cutscene that follows shows Ranni departing for the stars beyond the Erdtree.

As a reward, Ranni leaves you the Dark Moon Greatsword, one of the most powerful and aesthetically iconic weapons in the game. It scales with Intelligence and Strength and has a special charged Heavy Attack that coats the blade in moonlight frost.

To unlock the Age of Stars ending, summon Ranni at the end of the game from the glowing summoning sign at the Elden Throne after defeating the Elden Beast.

Pro Tips: Ranni Elden Ring

  • Do not exhaust Fia’s questline before completing Ranni’s: Fia’s Deathbed Companion questline and Ranni’s questline both involve the Cursemark of Death. Progressing Fia’s questline too early can cause confusion about which Cursemark you need. Complete Ranni’s objectives with the Cursemark before engaging Fia’s later steps.
  • Talk to Blaidd after every major step: Blaidd has updated dialogue at each stage of the questline. Missing his dialogue does not fail the quest, but it adds context and ensures his questline progresses correctly alongside Ranni’s.
  • Bring Preserving Boluses into the Lake of Rot: Running through the lake without rot cure items is extremely punishing. Craft or purchase at least 10 Preserving Boluses before entering the area.
  • Complete all Seluvis interactions before finishing Ranni’s quest: Seluvis has a separate questline that can conflict with Ranni’s story. Progress it fully before handing in the Fingerslayer Blade to Ranni to ensure you do not miss his questline content.
  • Use the coffin at the Lake of Rot’s edge: It is not immediately obvious that the coffin transports you. Do not try to find another route down; the coffin is the intended path.

Common Mistakes Ranni Questline Elden Ring Players Make

  1. Forgetting to defeat Radahn before looking for Nokron. Many players know they need the Fingerslayer Blade but search for a way into Nokron without realizing Radahn’s defeat is required to open it. Fix: Complete the Radahn Festival at Redmane Castle in Caelid before attempting to enter Nokron.
  2. Missing the Carian Inverted Statue prompt after returning the Fingerslayer Blade. Ranni gives the statue as her reward, but players who do not read the item description miss that it belongs in the Carian Study Hall. Fix: Read every item description from Ranni carefully, as her rewards all correspond to specific subsequent steps.
  3. Not equipping the Dark Moon Ring before interacting with Ranni’s body. Players who reach Ranni’s body in the Cathedral without the Dark Moon Ring equipped cannot complete the interaction. Fix: Open your inventory and equip the Dark Moon Ring to your finger slot before descending to Ranni’s body. The ring must be equipped, not simply in your inventory.
