October 27 will serve as a break between the third and fourth rounds. However, matches will take place on October 30, with teams fighting to remain in the tournament. Individual matchups and game order will depend on the opening draw and subsequent results. For that reason, the schedule lists daily start times rather than specific match times for each team.

How does the Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage format work?

The 16 participating teams compete in a single standings system across a maximum of five rounds. Teams that reach three wins advance to the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, three losses result in elimination from the tournament. The first two rounds feature best-of-one (BO1) matches. Starting in Round 3, the match format depends on each team's record. Series that can determine qualification or elimination are played as best-of-three (BO3). This means October 25 and 26 will feature both BO1 and BO3 matches. Teams with a 1-1 record continue playing single games, while teams sitting at 2-0 or 0-2 enter decisive series. All matches in Rounds 4 and 5 are BO3. As a result, no team can be eliminated from the Swiss Stage based on a single game loss in a decisive series. After the opening round, draws pair teams with identical records, such as 1-0 against 1-0. From Round 2 onward, teams from the same region may face each other. However, rematches are not allowed during the Swiss Stage.

Participating teams and draw pools

worlds 2026 swiss stage dates The opening-round draw will take place on October 18, after the Play-In Stage determines its final qualifier. Riot Games has divided the participants into four pools to organize the matchups.
Pool Teams
1 Gen.G (GEN), Anyone's Legend (AL), Team Liquid Alienware (TLAW), and G2 Esports (G2)
2 LOS, Team Secret Whales (TSW), Hanwha Life Esports (HLE), and Bilibili Gaming (BLG)
3 LYON, Movistar KOI (MKOI), T1, and TOP Esports (TES)
4 CTBC Flying Oyster (CFO), Invictus Gaming (IG), Dplus Kia (DK), and Karmine Corp (KC)
In the opening round, Pool 1 teams will face Pool 4 teams. Pool 2 organizations will play against Pool 3 opponents. The rules also prevent teams from the same region from facing each other in Round 1. These pools do not determine LOS's opening opponent in advance. The Brazilian champion enters Pool 2 and could face any of the teams in Pool 3, including six-time world champion T1. The exact matchup will only be known after the draw. Teams will then have just a few days to prepare opponent-specific strategies before the Swiss Stage begins on October 23.

Fearless Draft: what changes in BO3 series?

worlds 2026 participating teams The Fearless Draft system will be used in best-of-three series throughout the Swiss Stage. Under this rule, any champion selected in one game becomes unavailable to both teams for the remaining games of that series. In practice, a champion picked by the opposing team also cannot be selected again. These restrictions accumulate throughout a BO3, requiring deeper champion pools and greater flexibility during picks and bans. This system places more emphasis on strategic preparation. Coaching staffs must develop different team compositions, while players need to be comfortable competing with champions beyond their preferred picks. The rule does not change BO1 matches, which are decided in a single game. Its impact becomes more significant during qualification and elimination series, when coaches must adapt their drafts between games.
