Reaching level 45 in Aion 2 is the entry point to the game’s real content. The Abyss, endgame dungeons, the crafting economy, and large-scale PvP all exist on the other side of the level cap. Getting there efficiently means understanding the quest priority system, the gear upgrade loop, which side systems require attention during leveling versus at endgame, and what causes the difficulty spikes that catch new players off guard.
Experienced players can reach level 45 in 12 to 15 hours by following only main story quests. New players should expect 20 to 25 hours including side content for smoother progression.
This guide gives you the fastest and most functional leveling path: the route that reaches 45 with a character who is ready for endgame, not one who needs to spend a week catching up after arriving at the level cap.
Understanding the Quest Structure
AION 2 uses a priority system for its quests. Recognizing which quest type serves which purpose prevents the common mistake of ignoring content that matters and spending time on content that does not.
Main Story Quests (Yellow markers): Your number one source of EXP. If you want the fastest path to level 45, follow the Main Story Quest chain from start to finish. These quests offer the largest EXP rewards and will naturally guide you through every zone and unlock new areas of the map.
Side Quests (Blue markers): While side content doesn’t give huge EXP, it gives the one currency that truly matters during leveling: Daevanion Points. You need these to unlock major skill upgrades at Level 12 and Level 16, which dramatically increase your damage and survivability. If you skip side content, your character will feel weak, even at level 45.
Sealed Dungeons (? markers on map): Small instanced zones that scale with your level. They reward enhancement stones and gear upgrades. They are small instanced zones or combat challenges that reward enhancement stones and early gear upgrades.
Elite mobs: Elite mobs give significantly better XP. Prioritize them when possible during normal questing routes.
The Optimal Leveling Route
Phase 1: Levels 1 to 15 — Main Quest Only
During the first 15 levels, the main story quest chain is your exclusive focus. The game’s tutorial systems are tied to the main quest, and side quests during this phase are limited enough that the Deviant points from them are not yet impactful. Move through the opening zone as quickly as possible.
Key actions during Phase 1:
- Equip every gear upgrade immediately when it drops. A green upward arrow means the item is stronger. Double-click to equip.
- Begin Essence Extraction gathering from resource nodes you pass during questing
- Level your primary skills as skill points accumulate
- Complete the tutorial objectives as they appear for additional rewards
Phase 2: Levels 15 to 30 — Main Quest with Side Quest Rotation
At level 15, begin incorporating side quests into your session routine. We recommend starting side quests around level 15, as you’ll have unlocked plenty by then. It’s fine to do them as soon as you get one or after completing a section of the main story.
The rotation during Phase 2:
- Complete the current main story chapter to its natural stopping point
- Clear available side quests in the same zone before moving to the next area
- Run Sealed Dungeons when they appear as markers on the map
- Extract unused gear drops to generate enhancement stones
The Deviant points from side quests during this phase are significant. Every Deviant point earned now is an investment in the skill upgrades you will need at endgame.
Phase 3: Levels 30 to 45 — Unlock Stigma Skills and Push
At approximately level 35, Stigma Skills unlock. These additional active abilities extend your class toolkit and are the foundation of endgame builds.
Each class has basic abilities (mapped to approximately 8 keys) and Stigma Skills unlocked later (around level 35). You can reset your skills for free at any time, so you are encouraged to experiment.
During Phase 3:
- Identify your class’s primary Stigma Skills from community guides and invest in them immediately on unlock
- Push Deviant points toward your two core damage skills, targeting the Level 12 threshold
- Maintain weapon enhancement at current level: Always prioritize your weapon. Weapon upgrades give the biggest increase in DPS, making story bosses significantly easier to defeat.
- Access the Daevanion board and begin spending accumulated Deviant points
The Gear Enhancement Loop During Leveling
Gear upgrades happen constantly during leveling. Aion 2’s enhancement system is designed to be actively used on leveling gear, not held in reserve for endgame drops.
How enhancement works:
- Press N to open the enhancement interface
- Select a piece of gear and apply Enhancement Stones
- Each enhancement level adds flat stat bonuses to existing stats
- The system is safe: If you enhance an item and later find a better one, you can equip the new item and extract the old one. You will recover 100% of the Enhancement Stones used, only losing the Kina cost, which is negligible at low levels.
Enhancement stone sources:
- Extract ALL unused gear to generate more stones. Use these stones to keep your weapon up-to-date.
- Sealed Dungeon completions
- Side quest rewards
The practical loop: equip everything that is an upgrade, extract everything that is not, apply the resulting stones to your weapon.
Skill Chains and Combos
One of the most impactful early gameplay mechanics in Aion 2 is the skill chain system, where certain skills trigger follow-up abilities when specific conditions are met.
Example: Freeze (Q) → Frost Burst (requires frozen target). Both trigger with one key in sequence. Left-click regenerates MP. Most skills consume MP.
Learning your class’s primary skill chains during the leveling phase builds the muscle memory that makes you effective at endgame. Every class has at least two or three primary chains. Identify them from the skill description (which states the trigger condition) and practice activating them consistently during the open-world questing phase where stakes are low.
MP management: The left-click basic attack regenerates MP in AION 2. Weaving basic attacks between skill uses during non-combat-critical moments keeps your MP healthy without requiring potion consumption.
Story Bosses: The Difficulty Spikes
Main story quests include boss fights that represent the most demanding solo content during leveling. These bosses have mechanics, not just stat checks.
Main quests include harder bosses, which may be difficult if your gear or ping is low.
The two reasons players struggle with story bosses:
1. Under-enhanced gear: If you have been equipping upgrades but not enhancing them, your effective stats are lower than your gear level suggests. Keep your weapon enhanced to at least +3 or +4 at all times.
2. High ping: Story bosses have dodge windows based on visual cues. At 100ms+ ping, the window between the visual cue and the hitbox arriving has narrowed by the time your dodge action reaches the server. Players with low ping can execute the same dodge cleanly that high-ping players miss consistently.
Handling Story Bosses Effectively
- Check your enhancement level before a boss: If you have been ignoring enhancement, apply available stones to your weapon before attempting the boss
- Use food buffs: Cooking consumables that boost attack or defense are cheap and available from the broker. They provide meaningful stat increases for boss fights
- Use a health potion at 50% HP rather than waiting for low HP: Reactive healing at very low HP leaves no room for error. Proactive potioning at 50% gives the healer (if you have one) time to recover
- If you die repeatedly to the same mechanic, the problem is the mechanic: Watch where the boss’s attack originates and which direction its hitbox moves. Dying repeatedly means your positioning in relation to that hitbox is incorrect, not that your gear is insufficient
After Level 45: What Changes
Reaching level 45 does not end character progression. It shifts it:
- Main quest continues with a different reward structure
- Green quests at level 45 become the primary source of Deinian crystals, which are required for high-end character growth.
- Endgame dungeon access opens for gear upgrading
- Abyss PvP becomes the primary competitive activity
- Crafting professions become the primary Kinah generation method
- Deviant points from side content continue to accumulate and matter
Play Aion 2 Without Latency Setting Back Your Leveling with ExitLag
Story bosses with tight dodge windows, Sealed Dungeon encounters that require fast reactions, and the general responsiveness of skill chain execution all depend on your input reaching NC’s servers within acceptable timing windows.
This is the hidden strength behind smooth gameplay. AION 2’s bosses are reactive and often punishing, especially with latency.
ExitLag is a connection optimizer used by over 30 million players across 4,000+ game titles including AION 2. It routes your game traffic through the fastest available path to NC’s servers, reducing the latency that makes story bosses feel unfairly punishing and skill chains feel unresponsive.
Features that help during the leveling phase specifically:
- Real-Time Optimization: Keeps ping low during story boss encounters where timing matters most
- Multipath Technology: Eliminates the packet loss that causes missed dodge registrations and failed skill chain inputs
- Traffic Shaper: Ensures no background process spikes your ping during a story boss fight mid-session

Pro Tips: Aion 2 Leveling 1 to 45
- Do not save enhancement stones for endgame gear: The stones you hold unused during leveling could be keeping your weapon enhanced. The extraction system means you lose nothing by using them on leveling gear now.
- Complete every Sealed Dungeon you encounter on the map: They take 10 to 15 minutes and give enhancement stones that directly fund your weapon upgrades. There is no reason to skip them during normal questing routes.
- Spend Deviant points toward core damage skills first: The temptation to spread Deviant points across multiple skills is understandable early. Resist it. Pushing two core skills to Level 12 produces more combat power than spreading points across six skills at lower levels.
- Check the interactive map for Sealed Dungeon locations you might have missed: The community interactive maps (aion2atlas.com and aion2hub.com) mark all Sealed Dungeon positions across both faction zones. Checking the map after clearing an area ensures you have not missed any.
Common Leveling Mistakes in Aion 2
- Rushing main quests and skipping side content entirely: Arriving at level 45 without Deviant points to invest in skill upgrades leaves you with a functional but undertuned character that takes weeks of side questing at endgame to bring up to par. Fix: complete side quests in zones you are already in rather than moving to the next area before clearing them.
- Not extracting unused gear drops: Players who equip new drops without extracting replaced items leave a consistent stream of free enhancement stones uncollected. Fix: after every gear equip, extract the previous item immediately rather than storing it.
- Waiting until level 45 to engage with the Deviant system: The Deviant board becomes available long before level 45. Players who delay opening it lose the incremental power gains from early skill upgrades. Fix: spend Deviant points as they accumulate, starting with your most-used skill.
