You hit Novice 50 in Essence Extraction, the bar stops moving, and the Aion 2 Splendent Ruby is the item standing in your way. Plenty of players run laps around ore nodes for an hour before they realize the problem is not luck.
The Aion 2 Splendent Ruby is a quest item, and it does not behave like normal ore. Gather it the wrong way and nothing ever drops.
Here is the short version. The Aion 2 Splendent Ruby only starts to spawn after you accept the Essence Extraction upgrade quest at Novice level 50, and you then mine it from ruby veins in your faction’s zone and hand it to the quest NPC.
Global servers went live on October 5, so the early rush is over. Ruby spots for the Aion 2 Splendent Ruby are still busy at evening peak, though.

Where Do You Find the Aion 2 Splendent Ruby?
Location depends on your faction. Elyos and Asmodians do not share spots, and the camp most guides name for one side is closed to the other.
Asmodian Locations
Asmodian players have two spots guides agree on:
- The cliffs and rocks just north of the Quai Campsite.
- Cliffs across the west and south of Calderon Canyon in Altgard.
Quai Campsite is the easier first stop. Several ruby nodes sit close together there, so you can chain them without a long run.
Elyos Locations
If you picked Elyos at the start, Quai Campsite is not available to you. Two areas come up most often:
- Around the Verteron Fortress Ruins, west of Zumion Village.
- South of the Garden of the Illusion God Observatory in Verteron.
We’d start at the ruins. It’s the spot with the most agreement between guides, and it’s close to a town for the turn-in.
Which Map Should You Pick First?
| Faction | Zone | Landmark | Best for
|
|---|---|---|---|
| Asmodian | Altgard | Quai Campsite (north cliffs) | Clustered nodes |
| Asmodian | Altgard | Calderon Canyon (west and south) | Wide search area |
| Elyos | Verteron | Verteron Fortress Ruins | Short walk to turn in |
| Elyos | Verteron | Garden of the Illusion God Observatory (south) | Backup when the ruins are crowded |
Ruby veins also show up in other zones, which fools people hunting the Aion 2 Splendent Ruby. Only the faction zones above are confirmed by the guides we checked, so we’d stick to them. If a node outside those areas gives you only gemstones, that’s normal.
How Does the Essence Extraction Upgrade Quest Work?
The upgrade quest is called “[Upgrade] Essence Extraction Specialty”. You start it once you reach Novice level 50, and you finish it by delivering the ruby to Korius if you’re Elyos or Alzirr if you’re Asmodian.
Rewards include the move to the Professional tier. That is the real reason to bother, since Novice 50 is a hard cap until the quest is done.
Step-by-Step Quest Order
- Reach Novice level 50 in Essence Extraction.
- Accept the upgrade quest from Korius (Elyos) or Alzirr (Asmodians).
- Open the Essence Extraction skill menu and activate the marking gems for your minimap.
- Travel to your faction’s ruby zone and mine veins until a Splendent Ruby drops.
- Return to the NPC and hand it in to claim your rewards.
Do You Need to Be Online at a Special Time?
No. The quest has no timer that we could find, and the ruby is not tied to an event. You can chip away at it between dungeon runs.
Guide details may shift after a patch, so check the in-game quest log if your NPC or zone looks different.
Why Is It Not Dropping?
The ruby is account-bound and begins spawning only after you’ve accepted the quest. Mining ruby veins before that point gives you regular Ruby Gemstones, not the quest item.
The ruby is also a rare drop from those veins. That means some runs finish in a few nodes and others take far longer, and no route removes that variance. Accept it and mine in a loop.

Farming Routes and Pro Tips for Ruby Nodes
For the Aion 2 Splendent Ruby, mining speed matters less than route discipline. A clean loop beats a fast player who keeps backtracking.
Pro Tips: Splendent Ruby Farming
- Turn on the minimap markers: The marking gems in your Essence Extraction menu show nodes on the map, so you skip scanning every cliff by eye.
- Mine in one direction: Pick a loop around the camp and keep going the same way. Nodes you passed earlier have often respawned by the time you come back.
- Keep the Ruby Gemstones: You can use them in recipes like Ruby Decoration (2 Ruby Gemstone, 1 Abrasive) and Ruby Powder (1 Ruby Gemstone), so your failed rolls are not wasted.
- Play at off-peak hours: Fewer players means fewer empty nodes. Late night server time is calmer than the evening rush.
- Bring a swap weapon: Cliffs in Calderon Canyon are often guarded by mobs, and a quick fight beats running back to town after a death.
How Long Should You Expect It to Take?
Nobody has published a reliable drop rate, so any number you read online is a guess. Our rule: if you’ve cleared a full loop twice and found nothing, check that the quest is active and the minimap markers are on.
If both are fine, keep going. The ruby is rare, and a slow session is normal.
What Else Can You Do With Ruby Gemstones?
Regular gemstones feed handicrafting and alchemy. We’d keep a decent stack until you know what your crafting profession needs, because buying them back is a pain.
Splendent versions of crafted items come only from Crafting Bonuses, so don’t expect to craft your way around the quest ruby.
Common Mistakes Splendent Ruby Hunters Make
- Mining before the quest is active: You get plain gemstones and zero progress on the Aion 2 Splendent Ruby. Fix: accept the upgrade quest first, then start the loop.
- Going to the wrong faction camp: Elyos can’t use Quai Campsite, so a guide that sends you there wastes your trip. Fix: use the Verteron spots if you’re Elyos.
- Ignoring the minimap markers: Searching by eye costs minutes per node. Fix: switch on the marking gems from the Essence Extraction menu before you leave town.
- Quitting after a dry streak: Rare drops come in clumps. Fix: set a node count, mine through it, and reassess the route instead of hopping zones after every miss.
Does Lag Affect Gathering in Aion 2?
Yes, and it shows up in small ways. A mining action that takes a second to register can lose a node to another player standing next to you. Hitreg on mobs around the cliffs also gets sloppy with packet loss.
Aion 2 runs on regional servers in North America, South America, Europe and Asia. If you’re playing from Brazil or Chile on a North America server, expect a noticeable round trip on every action, and the busiest ruby spots are where that hurts most.
The game is on Steam for PC only at global launch, with no confirmed mobile or console version outside Korea and Taiwan. For a breakdown, see ExitLag’s guide to Aion 2 platforms.
Quick Checks Before a Long Splendent Ruby Session
- Close downloads and launchers that eat bandwidth.
- Use a wired connection if you can.
- Pick the server region closest to you, and read the Aion 2 global release schedule if you’re unsure which one that is.
- Test your ping in town before you commit to a two-hour loop.
Is Gathering Worth Optimizing For?
It is, mildly. Mining isn’t a boss fight, so a 40 ms spike won’t kill you. Still, desync at crowded nodes costs you drops, and that’s the one thing you can’t buy back.

ExitLag for Aion 2: A Steadier Route to the Ruby Spots
What ExitLag Does Here
ExitLag is not a VPN. It’s a game connection optimizer that tests several network paths in real time and picks the fastest, most stable one to the game server. It doesn’t encrypt your traffic or mask your IP.
Why Multipath Matters in a Crowded Zone
For an MMO like Aion 2, the useful part is stability. Multipath sends packets over more than one route, so one bad hop during a crowded evening won’t freeze your character mid-mine.
When the Problem Is FPS
If your frame pacing is also rough, there’s more on the PC side in ExitLag’s post about FPS boost in Aion 2. Don’t run ExitLag together with a VPN, since that cuts the benefit.
ExitLag supports 4,000+ titles, with 1,500+ servers in 190+ countries. Grab ExitLag Download before your next ruby run and see what your ping looks like in the busiest zones.
Final Take on the Aion 2 Splendent Ruby
The Short Plan
Treat the Aion 2 Splendent Ruby as a two-step job. Accept the quest at Novice 50, then run a clean loop through your faction’s ruby zone with the minimap markers on.
What You Control
Nobody can promise a drop count, since it’s rare by design. Even a perfect route can go dry for a while. A stable connection and a fixed route are the only parts you control.
