Legion Commander is Dota 2’s quintessential dueling hero. Her ultimate, Duel, locks both her and a target enemy hero in single combat for a few seconds, forcing a direct one-on-one fight where the winner gains a permanent damage bonus. Building toward Duel wins is the entire game plan for a Legion Commander player.
Legion Commander’s Abilities
Overwhelming Odds: Deals damage and grants movement speed bonus, scaling with the number of enemy units in the area. Excellent for escaping surrounded situations and fighting near creep waves.
Press the Attack: Removes debuffs from a friendly hero and grants bonus attack speed and HP regen for a duration. Can be cast on allies or self.
Moment of Courage (Passive): Gives Legion Commander a chance to immediately attack again with lifesteal on each attack. This passive is the core of her damage output in Duel.
Duel (Ultimate): Forces Legion Commander and a target hero to fight each other, disabling all abilities and items for both heroes during the duration. The hero who deals more total damage wins. The winner receives a permanent +15 bonus damage stacked across every won Duel.

- Magic Wand — stat efficiency and burst HP for tight Duel margins
- Armlet of Mordiggian — toggleable HP amplification; core aggressive item

Duel Strategy
Pick Duel targets carefully:
- Prioritize enemy carries with high base damage but no defensive abilities during Duel
- Avoid Dueling heroes with Blade Mail, high natural armor, or on-Duel passives that proc inside the lock
- Use Press the Attack immediately after initiating Duel for the attack speed and debuff removal
Positioning for Duel:
- Blink onto the target from outside their vision to prevent retreating before the Duel cast lands
- Ensure Blink Dagger is not on cooldown before committing to an engagement
- Angle your Blink to land slightly behind the target so their first instant reaction (retreating) runs into your Legion rather than away
