The MW4 release date is set for Friday, October 23, 2026. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 will launch with multiplayer, alongside full access to the campaign and DMZ.
However, Activision is rolling out the game in stages. Players who digitally pre-ordered the game have been able to play the campaign since October 16. Meanwhile, DMZ early access begins on October 20.
That means the MW4 release date isn’t the only date worth marking on your calendar. Season 1, which brings Modern Warfare 4 content to Warzone, is scheduled to launch on November 6.
Here’s everything you need to know about the release schedule, launch times, supported platforms, and how to get ready to play.
MW4 Release Date: Full Launch Schedule

Modern Warfare 4 is developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. Its campaign follows a conflict on the Korean Peninsula, bringing Captain Price back into action.
The game launches on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. There will be no PS4 or Xbox One versions.
| Launch stage | Date | U.S. launch time | Who can play |
| Campaign Early Access | October 16 | 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET, based on the reported launch window | Digital pre-orders |
| DMZ Early Access | October 20 | 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET, according to specialized coverage | Digital pre-orders |
| Full Release and Multiplayer | October 23 | Midnight local time on PC; check console storefronts | All buyers |
| Season 1 and Warzone Integration | November 6 | To be confirmed | MW4 owners and Warzone players |
Early access times are subject to change and may vary by platform.
For the full PC release, Activision lists a midnight unlock based on local time. Console players should check their platform’s storefront countdown before planning their first session.
When Do the Campaign, DMZ, and Multiplayer Unlock?
Campaign: Early Access Started October 16
The full campaign is already available to players who digitally pre-ordered an eligible edition. It features 16 missions that take the conflict beyond Korea as Captain Price leads his own operation.
This early access period does not apply to physical copies. Players purchasing the disc version will be able to experience the campaign starting October 23.
DMZ: Early Access Begins October 20
DMZ Early Access launches on Tuesday, October 20. The benefit is available with digital pre-orders of the Standard and Vault Editions across all announced platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2.
The extraction mode takes place in Hajin, where operators search for valuable gear, fight AI-controlled enemies and rival players, complete objectives, and attempt to extract with their loot.
Between matches, the Forward Operating Base (FOB) allows players to prepare their loadouts and develop additional resources.
To start playing DMZ before October 23, follow these steps:
- Digitally pre-order the Standard or Vault Edition through your platform’s official store.
- Install the available game files through preloading.
- Once early access opens on October 20, launch the game and select DMZ.
- Prepare your equipment at the FOB and choose Deploy to enter Hajin.
Multiplayer: Everyone Starts October 23
There is no early access period for the full multiplayer experience. The MW4 multiplayer release date is October 23, regardless of whether players purchase the Standard or Vault Edition.
However, there is one important difference when it comes to preparation.
Because weapon progression is shared between DMZ and multiplayer, players who take advantage of DMZ Early Access from October 20 through October 22 can enter multiplayer with some weapon levels and attachments already unlocked.
This gives them more loadout customization options, but it doesn’t guarantee an advantage in every match. Learning the maps, experimenting with loadouts, and adapting weapons to your playstyle will still matter.
When Does MW4 Content Arrive in Warzone?

The Warzone integration with Modern Warfare 4 launches on November 6, 2026, alongside Season 1.
Until then, the battle royale will continue operating with its Black Ops 7 integration. Warzone also remains free-to-play, so purchasing MW4 is not required.
The update will introduce content and shared seasonal progression from Modern Warfare 4, including the season’s first Battle Pass.
Among the announced locations are Hajin for battle royale and Zodiac for Resurgence. Verdansk and Rebirth Island are also part of the announced content lineup for this period.
What Happens to Older Weapons and Skins?
Activision will continue supporting weapons, operators, operator skins, and weapon blueprints from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7 in Warzone.
However, older weapon camos are not included in this carry-forward system, as Activision clarified in an official correction.
Previous weapons will also face customization restrictions. Older guns will no longer offer the same Gunsmith experience, although versions equipped with attachments will remain available.
Another major change is the end of Warzone support on PS4 and Xbox One when Season 1 begins.
Players using those consoles will need to move to a supported platform to continue playing the battle royale.
How to Play MW4 and Where to Download It
If you’re wondering where to download MW4, the available options depend on your platform.
On PlayStation 5, the digital edition is available through the PlayStation Store.
For Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, players can purchase the game through the Xbox or Microsoft Store. Eligible digital purchases support Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing access across supported Xbox consoles and Windows PCs.
On PC, Modern Warfare 4 is also available through Steam and Battle.net.
Meanwhile, Nintendo Switch 2 players can purchase the digital edition through the Nintendo eShop.
Standard vs. Vault Edition: Prices and Bonuses
The Standard Edition includes the complete game and carries a suggested U.S. price of $69.99.
The Vault Edition, available digitally for a suggested $99.99, adds operator packs, weapon blueprints, one season of BlackCell, and additional DMZ deployment bonuses.
Players who already own the digital Standard Edition can also upgrade to Vault for $30, depending on regional availability.
This upgrade does not apply to physical editions.
An additional 10% loyalty discount on the Vault Edition is available to eligible players. The offer is tied to pre-order eligibility and platform-specific conditions.
Before purchasing, check your platform’s official storefront for current pricing, eligibility requirements, and regional availability.
Do You Need a Subscription to Play Multiplayer Online?
Yes, console players need a compatible online subscription to access the paid game’s online modes.
The requirements are:
- PlayStation 5: PlayStation Plus.
- Xbox Series X|S: Game Pass Essential.
- Nintendo Switch 2: Nintendo Switch Online.
PC players do not need an equivalent console subscription to play online.
Is MW4 Coming to Xbox Game Pass?
Modern Warfare 4 will not be available on Xbox Game Pass on October 23.
Activision has stated that the game will join the subscription catalog during the 2027 holiday season, but an exact date has not been announced.
This means an Xbox Game Pass subscription alone will not provide access to the full game at launch.
Players who want to experience the campaign, DMZ, or multiplayer immediately will need to purchase an edition separately.
Warzone remains free-to-play and is not tied to this requirement.
How to Prepare Your PC Before MW4 Launches

PC players should check two important security requirements before launch: TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot.
Both must be enabled for the game to run correctly.
You can verify these settings through Windows and, when necessary, your system’s BIOS. Checking them ahead of time can help avoid installation and launch issues.
It’s also worth making sure you have enough free SSD storage, updating your graphics drivers, and completing the preload once it’s available for your purchase.
Taking care of these steps early can help you avoid spending your first gaming session troubleshooting installation problems.
MW4 Release Date: Get Your Connection Ready with ExitLag
The MW4 launch is expected to bring plenty of players into multiplayer and DMZ.
In online matches, ping spikes, packet loss, and connection drops can affect responsiveness. In an extraction mode like DMZ, a disconnect at the wrong moment can also put a successful run at risk.
ExitLag provides connection route optimization for online games. Its goal is to find more efficient network paths between your PC and game servers, helping address routing-related connection issues when they occur.
However, results depend on your internet provider, available network routes, and server conditions.
ExitLag does not replace a reliable internet connection, and it cannot guarantee a fixed ping in every match.
If you’re planning to play MW4 on PC, consider installing ExitLag for Windows and testing your connection before multiplayer goes live on October 23.
That way, you can evaluate your network route’s performance and get your setup ready ahead of launch.
