The Demacia Cup is no longer just a Chinese tournament: it has become a global League of Legends competition. Its first international edition is already underway, bringing together 12 teams from the six major leagues.
This Demacia Cup 2026 guide explains how the tournament works, who is playing and when the matches take place. Moreover, the opening days have already delivered a few surprises.
In short, the Demacia Cup 2026 guide comes down to this: the tournament runs from October 3 to 17, with an online Swiss Stage and an in-person knockout stage in Beijing. In total, 12 teams that missed out on Worlds are competing for a prize pool of around $223,000.
Demacia Cup 2026 Guide: What Is the Tournament?
The Demacia Cup has been one of China’s main domestic tournaments for more than a decade. This year, however, organizers TJ Sports and Huya turned the event into the Demacia Cup Global Invitational, or DCGI 2026.
A New International LoL Tournament
The new international LoL tournament was designed for teams that narrowly missed out on Worlds, giving mid-table squads valuable international experience.
The key details are:
- Dates: October 3 to 17.
- Location: online Swiss Stage, with the knockout stage at the Beijing JD Esports Center.
- Teams: 12 squads from six regions.
- Prize pool: ¥1.5 million, roughly $223,000.
How the Slots Were Distributed
Slot allocation was based on each region’s results at MSI. As a result, the LPL and LCK, which performed best, received three slots each.
Meanwhile, the LEC and LCS got two slots each, while the LCP and CBLOL received one apiece. In Brazil’s case, the slot went to the 4th-place regular-season team, since the CBLOL playoffs had not yet finished.
Participating Teams in the DCGI 2026
The participating teams all missed Worlds, but the lineup still features some big names. KT Rolster, for example, arrived as one of the favorites for the title.

Format and Match Schedule
The tournament format combines a Swiss Stage with a traditional knockout bracket. In addition, every series from Round 2 onward uses Fearless Draft.
How the Swiss Stage Works
The Swiss Stage runs from October 3 to 10 and follows these rules:
- In Round 1, teams play best-of-one matches, with no same-region matchups.
- From Round 2 onward, every matchup becomes a best-of-three.
- Any team that reaches two wins advances straight to the knockout stage.
- Teams that fall to 0-2 are not immediately eliminated: they enter a round robin that decides the remaining spots.
In the end, eight teams move on to the knockout stage.
Knockout Stage in Beijing
The knockout stage takes place in person from October 12 to 17. Every series is a best-of-five in single elimination, leading up to the grand final on October 17.
Match Start Times
Since the tournament is played in China, matches land overnight in the Americas and in the morning in Europe.
