The victory came heroically, following a historic comeback. The title solidifies the team led by Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo in the Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) scene. With this result, FURIA Thunderpick champions take home the trophy and a massive prize, asserting their dominance this season.
The flawless journey to the title
The achievement of FURIA Thunderpick champions was no accident. It crowns a season of strong recovery and consistency for the Brazilian team in CS2. The team demonstrated a level of tactical preparation and resilience that was crucial to lifting the trophy in Malta.
Even before landing for the Thunderpick event, FURIA had already shown their strength. The team recently won the FISSURE Playground 2, defeating The MongolZ. That title served as a high-level warm-up for the bigger challenge ahead.
Furthermore, the team achieved a solid top-8 finish at the competitive ESL Pro League Season 22. Their only loss in the EPL was to Team Vitality, who went on to win the event. This proved that FURIA was ready to fight for top-tier titles.
FURIA at the Thunderpick
At the Thunderpick World Championship, FURIA concentrated all their efforts. The goal was clear: to leave with the trophy. The campaign to the final was simply flawless, showing the squad’s total focus.
Their debut in the group stage set the tone for the tournament. They secured two solid 2-0 victories, leaving no room for upsets.
First, the team beat OG (13-10 on Nuke and 13-9 on Inferno). Next, they once again defeated The MongolZ, this time 19-15 on Dust2 and 13-11 on Mirage. The consistency of FURIA Thunderpick champions was evident.
The team seemed tactically well-prepared by FalleN, adapting quickly to their opponents. In the playoffs, the challenge increased, but the result remained the same. In the semi-finals, the victim was the surprising Turkish team, Aurora.
FURIA won 2-0 (13-11 on Train and 13-5 on Overpass). With this dominant run, FURIA reached the grand final without having lost a single map. Confidence was at an all-time high to claim the title that would make FURIA Thunderpick champions.
The heroic comeback of the FURIA Thunderpick champions
The grand final against Natus Vincere (NAVI) was a test for the fans’ hearts. The beginning was disastrous for the Brazilians. NAVI, one of the world’s best teams, came in focused and dominated the first two maps of the BO5 (Best-of-Five) series.
The Ukrainian team won 13-6 on Mirage and then 13-9 on Inferno. The 2-0 score for NAVI felt like a cold shower. The dream of seeing FURIA Thunderpick champions seemed distant, and the momentum had clearly shifted.
But the resilience, a hallmark of this lineup, spoke louder. FURIA’s rehabilitation was immediate and impressive. The Brazilian team did not falter and returned to the server with a new mindset.
On the third map, Nuke, FURIA locked down their defensive game and won 13-8. Hope was reborn. On the fourth map, Dust2, another dominant Brazilian performance: 13-5. The series was tied 2-2. It would all be decided on the final map.
The decider map was Train. What followed was a true tactical and technical masterclass. FURIA, riding the wave of their comeback, gave NAVI no chance. With a near-perfect CT (Counter-Terrorist) side and a devastating attack, FURIA closed the map with an incredible 13-1 score.
The historic comeback was complete. FURIA Thunderpick champions was a reality. Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato, with a spectacular performance throughout the tournament and a decisive role in the final, was named the MVP (Most Valuable Player) by HLTV.
The FURIA Thunderpick champions took home the largest share of the prize pool: $200,000. NAVI, as runners-up, received $60,000.
The future for FURIA in CS2
This is FURIA’s second major title of the season. The victory solidifies FalleN’s team at the top of the global CS2 scene and fills the Brazilian fans with pride.
Other teams from the Americas, such as Imperial and 9z Team, also competed in the tournament, showing the region’s strength.
Now, the FURIA Thunderpick champions already have their next challenge. The team will travel to China to compete in IEM Chengdu, starting on November 3rd.
