Worlds 2025 Guide: Format and schedule

Understanding the competition’s structure is crucial to following every moment. This Worlds 2025 Guide breaks down the three tournament phases, which promise excitement from start to finish with the implementation of the Fearless Draft format in decisive series, where a champion cannot be picked more than once.
The journey begins with the Play-In Stage on October 14th. In a best-of-five (Bo5) series, the fourth seeds from Korea (LCK) and China (LPL) will face off. The winner secures the final spot for the next stage, joining the other 15 already qualified teams. It’s the first high-stakes test of the championship.
Next is the Swiss Stage, taking place from October 15th to 25th. In this stage, the 16 teams are drawn against each other based on their regional seeds. The first round is played in best-of-one (Bo1) matches, but the series that determine qualification or elimination become best-of-three (Bo3). The system is simple: teams with the same win-loss record play each other. The goal is to achieve three wins to advance. Teams with three losses are eliminated.
The Knockout Stage, or Playoffs, is the tournament’s climax, running from October 28th to November 9th. The top eight teams from the Swiss Stage face off in a single-elimination bracket. All matches are in a Bo5 format. This is where legends are forged and the great 2025 World Champion is decided.
Detailed Schedule:
- Play-In Stage (Bo5): October 14th, starting at 05:00 AM.
- Swiss Stage (Bo1 & Bo3): October 15th to 25th, with matches at 02:00 AM and 05:00 AM.
- Knockout Stage (Bo5): October 28th to November 9th.
