Aion 2 is a PC game for the global launch. That is the confirmed, official answer from NC as of the Summer Game Fest announcement on June 5, 2026. The Korean and Taiwanese versions support PC and mobile simultaneously, but the global Western release is PC only at launch via Steam and the NC PURPLE launcher. Console support has not been announced for any region.
Understanding exactly what is available on which platform, what mobile status looks like globally versus regionally, and what the technical requirements are for the PC version is the foundation for knowing which hardware to prepare before September 30.
Confirmed Platform Availability at Global Launch
| Platform | Global (NA/EU/SA/Asia) | Korea | Taiwan |
|---|---|---|---|
| PC via Steam | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| PC via PURPLE (NC launcher) | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| iOS (mobile) | Not confirmed | Yes | Yes |
| Android (mobile) | Not confirmed | Yes | Yes |
| PlayStation 5 | No | No | No |
| Xbox Series X/S | No | No | No |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | No | No | No |
The global version is announced as a PC release distributed through Steam and NCSOFT’s own PURPLE launcher. It is free-to-play and will be hosted on regional servers in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia.
PC Version: Steam and PURPLE
Steam: Aion 2 is available on Steam and supports all standard Steam features including the Steam overlay, Steam friends integration, and Steam achievement tracking (to be confirmed at launch). Pre-purchase is live on Steam. The Steam App ID is 3393110.
PURPLE Launcher: NC’s proprietary launcher handles updates, news, and account management for Aion 2 alongside other NC titles. The PURPLE launcher version is functionally identical to the Steam version but uses NC’s own distribution infrastructure.
Both versions use the same game client and connect to the same regional servers. There is no content or performance difference between the Steam and PURPLE versions.
Important for Early Access: During Early Access, your access is tied to the platform where you purchased the Founder’s Pack: Steam purchases grant Early Access on Steam, and PURPLE purchases grant Early Access on PURPLE.
If your friends buy on Steam and you buy on PURPLE, your Early Access platforms are separate but you play on the same servers.
Mobile Version: Status for Global Players
The Korean and Taiwanese versions of Aion 2 launched with full mobile cross-play support on iOS and Android. The mobile version is not a stripped-down companion app: it is a full version of the game playable on mobile with the same content, progression, and cross-play with PC players.
Is Aion 2 coming to mobile globally? Currently, the global launch announced at Summer Game Fest 2026 is strictly for PC (Steam and PURPLE). While the South Korean and Taiwanese versions support mobile cross-play, NCSoft has not confirmed a mobile version for the North American or European markets at this time.
Global mobile availability depends on NC’s post-launch plans for Western markets. The absence of confirmed mobile support at global launch does not mean it will never come: NC may add mobile support for Western regions after the initial PC launch establishes the player base.
For the September 30 Early Access and October 5 global launch: PC is the only confirmed platform.
Console Version: Not Announced
Aion 2 has no confirmed console version for any region, including Korea and Taiwan where the game is actively live. No PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo platforms are supported.
This is a deliberate PC-first strategy. The game’s complex flight system, keyboard-and-mouse combat mechanics, and massive world navigation are optimized for PC input methods.
PC System Requirements
Based on the KR/TW launch specifications and Unreal Engine 5 typical requirements:
Minimum specifications:
| Component | Minimum |
|---|---|
| CPU | AMD Ryzen 5 2600 / Intel Core i5-10500 |
| GPU | NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti (4GB) or equivalent |
| RAM | 8 GB |
| Storage | 100 GB SSD |
| OS | Windows 10/11 (64-bit) |
| DirectX | Version 12 |
Recommended specifications:
| Component | Recommended |
|---|---|
| CPU | AMD Ryzen 7 3700X / Intel Core i7-11700 |
| GPU | NVIDIA RTX 2070 (8GB) or equivalent |
| RAM | 16 GB |
| Storage | 100 GB SSD |
| OS | Windows 10/11 (64-bit) |
| DirectX | Version 12 |
Aion 2’s advanced rendering techniques and real-time environments built on Unreal Engine 5 demand powerful hardware. Without optimization, players may face stuttering, frame drops, or network latency issues during intense battles.
The SSD requirement is firm: the game’s open world (36 times larger than the original Aion) relies on streaming asset loading that mechanical hard drives cannot sustain without notable pop-in and loading delays.
Cross-Platform Play: What Works and What Does Not
Within global PC: Steam and PURPLE players are on the same servers. They party together, trade on the same market, and compete in the same Abyss. There is no separation between Steam and PURPLE players within the same region.
Between global regions: NA, SA, EU, and Asia global servers are separate. No cross-play between regional clusters at launch.
Between global PC and KR/TW: Completely separate server infrastructure. No connection between global servers and the Asian servers already running.
Between global PC and mobile (if/when mobile launches globally): The KR/TW versions have full mobile-PC cross-play. If NC adds global mobile support post-launch, cross-play between mobile and PC would likely follow the same model.
PURPLE Launcher: What It Is and How to Set It Up
The PURPLE launcher is NC’s proprietary game management platform, similar to Epic Games Store for NC’s titles. For global players unfamiliar with it:
- Download the PURPLE launcher at plaync.com
- Create or sign in with your NC account
- Find AION 2 in the PURPLE game library
- Purchase a Founder’s Pack through PURPLE or use a previously purchased Steam Founder’s Pack key
- Download the game client
- At Early Access open, launch Aion 2 through PURPLE
The PURPLE launcher handles all patch management and content updates automatically. It does not require a separate subscription and is free to download.
Platform Performance Optimization
Regardless of which platform you use (Steam or PURPLE), the performance factors that affect Aion 2 are identical:
- GPU performance determines visual quality and frame rate stability
- CPU performance affects how many NPCs, players, and effects the game can simulate simultaneously (most relevant during large-scale Abyss battles)
- Storage speed (SSD vs HDD) affects world streaming and loading
- Network performance determines latency, packet loss, and connection stability
The network layer is where ExitLag adds platform-agnostic value. Whether you launch through Steam or PURPLE, ExitLag operates between your device and NC’s servers, optimizing the routing path that neither launcher can affect.
ExitLag is a connection optimizer used by over 30 million players across 4,000+ game titles. It analyzes multiple network routes in real time and selects the fastest, most stable path between your PC and Aion 2’s regional servers, ensuring the platform you choose delivers its best possible connection.

Pro Tips: Aion 2 Platform Setup
- Download the PURPLE launcher before launch day if you plan to use it: PURPLE requires its own download and account setup. Doing this on September 30 adds setup time that delays your Early Access start. Download and verify the launcher before September 30.
- Pre-load the game as soon as it becomes available: The 100 GB client takes hours to download. Monitor the Steam and PURPLE pages for pre-load availability and start it as early as possible, ideally 24 to 48 hours before Early Access opens.
- Verify your GPU drivers are updated before the client launches: Unreal Engine 5 games are sensitive to GPU driver versions. Update to the latest stable driver for your NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel GPU before launching Aion 2 for the first time.
- If you are undecided between Steam and PURPLE, choose Steam: Steam’s ecosystem provides a more familiar interface for most PC players, and the Steam overlay for screenshot capture, friends list, and game time tracking adds convenience that PURPLE’s standalone launcher does not replicate.
