Alexander Elden Ring: ⚔️ Complete Quest Guide & Rewards 🏆

7 min

Alexander Elden Ring is one of the most beloved NPC questlines in the entire Lands Between. Iron Fist Alexander, a talking warrior pot with an unbreakable spirit, crosses your path multiple times across the game, and the journey ends with a reward that many consider among the best talismans in the game.

Alexander Elden Ring questline rewards you with the Shard of Alexander, a talisman that raises the attack power of weapon skills by 15%. For builds that rely on Ashes of War like Bloodhound’s Step, Rivers of Blood, or Moonveil, this talisman is an absolute must-have.

The full questline spans from early Limgrave all the way to Crumbling Farum Azula, one of the last major areas in the game. If you know where to look and what to do, you can complete it without missing a single step. Every interaction matters, so this guide covers them all.

Alexander Elden Ring Quest: All Locations Step by Step

The Alexander Quest Elden Ring has ten key interactions, though not every one is strictly required for the quest to progress. However, completing as many as possible ensures you do not miss hidden dialogue or lock yourself out of the final encounter.

First Encounter: Limgrave at Saintsbridge

Your first meeting with Alexander happens in Limgrave, near the Saintsbridge Site of Grace in Stormhill. You will hear him calling for help before you even see him.

He is stuck in the ground, buried up to his shoulders. To help him:

  1. Walk behind him and attack his backside to jostle him loose.
  2. He will pop out of the ground and thank you warmly.
  3. Speak to him until all dialogue options are exhausted.

This first interaction unlocks his presence at later locations and sets the entire Alexander Questline Elden Ring in motion.

Second Encounter: Gael Tunnel and Siofra River

After Limgrave, Alexander can be found stuck in the ground again near the Gael Tunnel, on the border between Limgrave and Caelid. Free him the same way as before.

Additionally, Alexander appears as a summon sign before the Radahn boss fight in Caelid. Summoning him is optional but adds a fun narrative moment and a few extra dialogue lines.

  • He also appears briefly during the Radahn Festival event in Redmane Castle
  • Interacting with him before the fight gives unique dialogue
  • He comments on the battle afterwards if you speak to him at the festival grounds

Third and Fourth Encounters: Liurnia and Mt. Gelmir

After Radahn, Where To Find Alexander Elden Ring next takes you to Liurnia of the Lakes. He appears near the Artist’s Shack Site of Grace along the lake’s eastern shore.

He is stuck in the ground once more. This time, however, simply attacking him does not work. You need to pour an Oil Pot on him first to loosen him up, then strike.

  • Craft Oil Pots using the Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook [7], which requires Melted Mushroom and a Cracked Pot
  • Throw the Oil Pot directly at Alexander, then attack
  • Speak to him after he is freed for another round of memorable dialogue

After Liurnia, he appears near the Seethewater Terminus Site of Grace in Mt. Gelmir, where he comments on the warmth of the lava and his love of fighting.

Final Encounter: Crumbling Farum Azula

The most critical encounter in the Elden Ring Alexander Quest is the final one, deep in Crumbling Farum Azula. He appears near the Beside the Great Bridge Site of Grace.

When you speak to him, he challenges you to a one-on-one duel. This is mandatory for completing the questline and obtaining your reward.

Duel tips:

  • Alexander hits hard but telegraphs his attacks clearly
  • Dodge into his strikes rather than away to avoid the wide hitboxes
  • Use the arena’s size to stay mobile and punish after each attack

After the duel, Alexander gives you the Shard of Alexander talisman and his innards as items.

Elden Ring Shard of Alexander: What It Does and Why It Matters

The Shard of Alexander Elden Ring is a talisman that raises the attack power of weapon skills by 15%. For skill-heavy builds, this is the single best talisman in many situations.

Best Builds That Use the Shard of Alexander

The 15% skill damage boost applies to virtually every Ash of War in the game. The following builds benefit most:

  • Rivers of Blood: Corpse Piler deals enormous damage, and the Shard of Alexander amplifies every single hit.
  • Moonveil: Transient Moonlight hits multiple times, making the 15% compound into substantial burst damage.
  • Blasphemous Blade: Taker’s Flames is already powerful. With the Shard of Alexander, it becomes devastating.
  • Dragon Communion Incantations: While these are not skills, several hybrid builds benefit from pairing Shard of Alexander with certain weapons.
  • Bloodhound’s Step builds: The follow-up strikes after a dodge get the damage bonus as well.

Alexander’s Innards: The Other Reward

Beyond the talisman, completing the questline also gives you Alexander’s Innards. This item can be given to Jar Bairn in Jarburg to progress another connected NPC questline.

Jar Bairn’s questline is entirely separate, but completing it leads to its own set of unique rewards, making Alexander’s Innards one of the most valuable secondary quest items in the game.

Pro Tips: Alexander Elden Ring Quest

  • Do not rush Farum Azula: If you reach the final area before completing Alexander’s earlier encounters in Limgrave, Liurnia, and Gelmir, he will not appear for the duel. Always check each location before moving on to a new region.
  • Bring Oil Pots to Liurnia: The Liurnia encounter is where most players get stuck because they do not realize an Oil Pot is required to free him. Craft several before heading there.
  • Exhaust all dialogue every time: Each meeting with Alexander adds story context, and some dialogue only appears once. Speak to him fully at every location to experience the complete narrative.
  • Summon him for Radahn: Summoning Alexander during the Radahn boss fight adds unique post-fight dialogue and deepens the relationship between your character and this legendary jar warrior.

Common Mistakes Alexander Elden Ring Players Make

  1. Missing the Oil Pot step in Liurnia: Players attack Alexander repeatedly without the Oil Pot, which has no effect. The game does not give you a hint. Fix: craft or purchase Oil Pots before reaching the lake area, and apply them before attacking.
  2. Skipping Radahn to rush the quest: If you skip the Radahn fight entirely, you miss an optional interaction but can still complete the quest. However, visiting Redmane Castle and activating the Radahn Festival dialogue opens up additional story context that enriches the ending.
  3. Not activating both Farum Azula dialogues: When you first reach Alexander in Crumbling Farum Azula, you must exhaust two separate dialogue cycles before the duel option appears. Leaving after just one dialogue prompt means he just drops the Warrior Jar Shard instead. Fix: always speak to him twice and choose every available response.
