Dota 2 Hero Categories
Every hero in Dota 2 belongs to one of three primary attributes, which determines their base stat growth:

Position 3 (Offlane): Plays the most difficult lane against the enemy carry. Typically a tanky or disruption-focused hero who creates space.
Position 4 (Soft Support): Rotates the map, creates vision, and applies early pressure on the enemy safelane. Partial farm priority.

Invoker is currently the best mid hero with a 53.6% win rate and 15.9% pick rate. The Facets removal resulted in him receiving additional skill points in 7.41b that made his base kit more powerful. His synergy with Faceless Void’s Chronosphere makes the Void-Invoker core the most dominant duo in the current meta.
D-Tier: Currently Struggling
D-Tier heroes (43.0 to 45.0% win rate): Chen, Kez, Nature’s Prophet, Beastmaster, Gyrocopter, Bane, Death Prophet, Tiny, Batrider, Shadow Demon.
The Biggest Meta Shift: Facets Removed in Patch 7.41
Patch 7.41 was one of the biggest updates in years and it started with one massive decision: Valve removed the Facets system entirely. Old players would be surprised how the tier list has changed.
The Facets system allowed heroes to choose between two different passive modifications at the start of a draft. Its removal standardized hero kits and created significant power shifts across the roster. Heroes who were primarily good because of their Facets dropped significantly. Heroes whose base kits were strong independently became significantly better.
Best Heroes for MMR Climbing
For most skill brackets, the best MMR climbing heroes are Ursa and Chaos Knight at carry, Storm Spirit or Huskar at mid, Axe at offlane, Bounty Hunter at position four, and Jakiro or Elder Titan at hard support. For players below Archon, simpler heroes like Wraith King and Keeper of the Light outperform optimal meta picks because execution matters more than meta power in lower brackets.
