PEAK Game: 🧗 Complete Wiki Guide — Climb, Survive, Reach the Summit ⚡

PEAK is the co-operative climbing game developed by Aggro Crab and Landfall, released on Steam on June 16, 2025. It arrived as a game jam project in February 2025, expanded into a full release four months later, and immediately achieved Overwhelmingly Positive status on Steam.

Peak (stylized as PEAK) is a co-operative climbing game developed and published by Aggro Crab and Landfall, released on June 16, 2025 on Steam for Windows, and is verified Steam Deck compatible.

PEAK is a co-op climbing game where the slightest mistake can spell your doom. Either solo or as a group of lost nature scouts, your only hope of rescue from a mysterious island is to scale the mountain at its center.

What PEAK Is

PEAK’s gameplay revolves around lone Scouts, or Scout troops of up to 4 members, waking up after a plane belonging to BingBong Airlines crashes on the Shore of the Island. Their goal is to make it to the Peak, the highest point on the Island, where a rescue helicopter can be summoned using a Flare.

The core loop is deceptively simple: you crashed, you are on a mountain, you need to climb to the top. What PEAK adds around that premise is a layered survival system, a daily-refreshed island, Ascent difficulty modifiers, and co-op mechanics that make every run feel collaborative and chaotic simultaneously.

How Daily Randomization Works

The terrain, biomes (separated by campfires) and land-based hazards of the Island are randomized each day at 17:00 UTC, while naturally spawning food and the contents of scattered luggage are randomized each expedition.

Every day at 17:00 UTC, the mountain resets with a new configuration. The biome order changes, the hazard placement changes, and the route up the mountain is different. This keeps PEAK from being a puzzle you solve once and repeat: every session is a new problem.

Ascent Difficulty Levels

The game has a number of difficulty levels called Ascents which progressively add stacking downsides and make the climb harder for everyone.

Higher Ascent levels stack additional challenges on top of each other rather than simply making enemies stronger. This creates a scaling difficulty curve that experienced players can use to challenge themselves while newer players complete the base climb.

Biomes

The island is divided into distinct biomes, each separated by campfire rest points. The current biomes documented in the PEAK Wiki include:

  • Shore: The starting area where survivors wake after the crash
  • Tropics: Hot and humid mid-mountain section (replaced by ROOTS biome in a 2026 update)
  • ROOTS: New biome added in 2026 as a replacement for Tropics, featuring the root system environment
  • Mesa: Desert-like elevated section added in 2026 update with sunscreen and aloe items
  • Winter: High-altitude cold zone with snowfall and temperature management challenges

Each biome has unique environmental hazards, food sources, and items relevant to that section’s survival requirements.

Co-Op Mechanics

Multiplayer in PEAK is friends-only — invite up to three friends.

The co-op design is built around mutual assistance:

  • Help teammates up ledges they cannot reach solo
  • Place ropes and climbing spikes to create shared footholds
  • Share food and medical items to keep the group alive
  • Revive downed teammates before the rescue window closes

PEAK’s co-op distinguishes itself from extraction games by making cooperation the primary mechanic rather than combat. Players who played PEAK with friends during its viral Twitch period in 2025 drove the game’s rapid rise to cultural prominence.

Items and Equipment

PEAK’s item system covers three categories:

CategoryExamplesPurpose
FoodFruits, mushrooms (some poisonous), fishStamina and health restoration
MedicalBandages, medkitsHealth recovery
EquipmentRopes, climbing spikes, Balloons, Scout CannonTraversal and co-op assistance

The top-ranked players maintain a 3:2:1 ratio of food to medical to equipment items, optimizing inventory space while ensuring preparedness for unexpected events.

Badges and Cosmetics

The badge system rewards specific achievements during climbs. Each badge has a cosmetic reward associated with it. Major badge additions by update:

  • Mesa update: 10 new badges with cosmetic rewards
  • ROOTS update: 11 new badges added alongside the biome

How to Reach the Peak

The fundamental strategy for summit success:

  1. Manage stamina: The stamina bar depletes as you climb. Rest at campfires between biomes to fully restore before the next section.
  2. Carry temperature-appropriate items: Cold weather zones require warmth management. Sunscreen for Mesa, warmth items for Winter.
  3. Never rush: The most common death is falling from a ledge that could have been managed carefully. PEAK punishes rushing significantly more than it punishes taking time.
  4. Communicate with your squad: Especially in higher Ascent levels, calling out hazards, item locations, and teammate positions verbally or through chat prevents the cascade failures that end runs.

Play PEAK with ExitLag

PEAK’s co-op sessions run on Steam’s P2P infrastructure. Connection instability between players causes physics desync, dropped rope assists, and the item handoff failures that leave teammates stranded on ledges. ExitLag routes your connection to Steam’s servers through the lowest-latency available path, keeping co-op sessions synchronized from Shore to Summit.
